Another “cool” first is our view of ice in the river Danube! Apparently, this doesn’t occur every year, and we certainly don’t remember it from last winter. (By the way, December 31, 2008 marked our first full year in Budapest.) The temperatures have not risen above freezing for over a week now, so the river finally started to freeze. All day long, big swift-moving sheets of ice are flowing down the river! It’s not solid, but it’s still a pretty amazing sight.
